Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:40 PM Friday to a train vs. car crash at the Union Pacific Northwest Line and River Road in Des Plaines near US Route 14 and River Road, just east of downtown Des Plaines. River Road was closed for at least 60 minutes.
The incident involved a stalled car on the south tracks at River Road and Route 14. All occupants got out of the vehicle before it was struck.

Trains traveling to Harvard and Crystal Lake and Chicago will be stopped near Des Plaines due to a grade crossing incident. Trains may incur delays of up to 60 minutes. The following trains will be stopped: #637 to arrive Crystal Lake at 6:30pm; #641 to arrive Harvard at 6:46pm; #645 to arrive Barrington at 6:36pm and #647 to arrive Harvard at 7:19pm.
