South Elgin police and firefighters responded about 9:15 AM Monday to a house fire in the block of 900 West Kane.South Elgin, IL. Firefighter/paramedics entered a home with a kitchen fire that was unoccupied, except for a dog and another pet inside the home. Firefighters rescued the two pets and discovered the stove and cabinets on fire.
During investigation, it was discovered that one of the dogs had a history of jumping up on the stove and turning on the stove top burners. Monday morning a pizza box was on the stove, and the dog apparently jumped up to check out the pizza box and hit the stove top knob, which ignited the pizza box.
South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters called for a MABAS Box Alarm, which was struckout by 9:30 a.m.
