Cook County Sheriff’s Police stopped a burglary in progress Tuesday and were able to nab a suspect in another burglary in the area.

After hearing suspicious noises, a neighbor called police at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday to investigate the apartment next door in the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive of unincorporated Maine Township. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Police caught an offender in the apartment amidst a foiled burglary attempt. A search of the offender uncovered a single-handle lug nut iron, screwdriver and pocket knife. He also had jewelry and a set of car keys belonging to a stolen car in the adjoining driveway. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the vehicle was towed.
At approximately 9 p.m. the same day, a burglary was reported at an apartment in the 9600 block of Brandy Court in unincorporated Maine Township. The missing items reported matched the items found in the vehicle that was towed earlier that day.
John W. Gilliam, 35, of Chicago, has been charged with felony residential burglary and appeared in bond court Wednesday. He was issued a $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 24 in Skokie.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for concerned citizens who report suspicious noises or activity and encourages the public to do so.
