VIDEO: Attached garage fire on Willow Lane in Elk Grove Village Sunday afternoon.
Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:33 PM Sunday to a report of an attached garage fire at 600 Willow Lane Elk Grove Village, IL (Incident in the block). Police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:35 p.m. Sunday to a report of flames showing from an attached garage.
Police were first on the scene and reported that all occupants of the house were evacuated except for a cat.
The fire quickly spread from the attached garage to the house. One firefighting crew hit the garage with a hose line, while another crew entered the house with a hose line. A truck company crew checked the attack and worked on ventilation, and reported the entire attic was involved with fire.
The fire in the garage area was reported out about 12:53 p.m. The fire in the house was reported extinguished about 12:57 p.m. just after firefighters pulled down the kitchen ceiling and were putting out hot spots on roof rafters at the rear of the house.
The State of Illinois Fire Marshal responded to the scene. Investigators were initially suspicious of an area near the electric meter on the west side of the house — the side, exterior wall of the garage.
No confirmation on whether the cat was rescued. As of 1:00 p.m. there was no word that the cat had been rescued.
Des Plaines and Itasca firefighters assisted Elk Grove firefighters at the scene.
