Crash scene at Palatine Road and Wheeling Road where an Arlington Heights woman was died after a crash with a semi-trailer truck.
Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:26 PM Wednesday to a pin-in crash at the intersection of Palatine Road and Wheeling Road. Prospect Heights firefighter/paramedics, first on the scene, reported a car in the intersection with moderate to serious damage. A mutual aid ambulance from Glenview responded to the scene. A fire engine from Mount Prospect also responded to the scene.
A Freightliner semi-trailer truck was involved in a crash with a Mazda Protege, which had severe damage on the driver’s side. A female driver in the Protege was unconscious on the scene and transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday. The victim’s name was released late Friday after authorities notified Christine’s family.
Investigation of the crash at the border of Wheeling and Prospect Heights in Cook County is being conducted by the Wheeling Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team. Investigation includes a review of the red light camera(s) operating at the intersection.
The intersection is a fast-paced, confusing intersection for many drivers — involving frontage lanes and no turn express lanes. There are two other similar intersections to the west of this intersection at Palatine Road and Schoenbeck Road at the border of Arlington Heights-Prospect Heights Wheeling Border, and at Palatine Road and Windsor Drive in Arlington Heights.
