The Village Board of Arlington Heights voted a smaller tax levy increase than proposed one week ago. A 1.2 percent increase for a home valued at $300,000, would bring a $12 increase to the 2013 property tax bill. The increase is about half the cost of the $20 increase trustees unanimously approved at the Committee of the Whole meeting Nov. 15, 2012 when they tested resident reaction with a 1.92 percent increase.
The biggest reason for the increase is employee pensions. Village Manager Bill Dixon last week reminded residents that only 11 percent of the property tax bill directed to the Village of Arlington Heights.
There will be a public hearing to discuss the a proposed tax levy increase of 3.4 percent at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights. The school board is likely to vote to approve the levy.
