Chicago Fire Department firefighters and paramedics responded about 9:27 a.m. Wednesday to an apartment fire in a five-story apartment building. Flames and smoke rolled out the window of a corner unit on the top floor of the apartment building while firefighters rescued a man from a fourth floor unit on the other side of the building.
An extra alarm 2-11 was ordered about 9:40 a.m. as firefighters also received a report that a resident was trapped in a fifth floor apartment. A man was taken rescued down a ladder truck from the fourth floor. A woman was rescued and transported Code Yellow to Weiss Memorial Hospital. One firefighter was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital as a precaution.
An EMS PLAN 1 was ordered about 9:55 AM when it was realized that two people would be transported to area hospitals.
The 2-11 was struck out at about 9:57 AM.
