Arlington Heights police received a report about 9:59 AM Friday of a stolen vehicle from Sullivan Buick GMC, 777 West Dundee Road. Police received a report that a silver 2005 Dodge Ram SRT 10 pickup truck equipped with a viper engine was stolen — preceded by suspicious circumstances.
On Thursday November 8, 2012 at about 11:50 a.m. two male subjects entered the dealership wanting to test drive the Dodge Ram truck, which they said they discovered online. Both men and a sales manager went on a short test drive. After the test drive, male Subject #1 walked into the showroom with the sales manager to discuss the price of the vehicle. Subject #2 remained with the truck — saying he wanted to check the interior. When Subject #1 and the manager returned to the truck, Subject #2 handed a key to the manager, and the two men left. They were at the dealership for less than 30 minutes. Later unspecified personnel attempted to move the truck, but even though the key fit in the ignition and started the car, the ignition would immediately shut down. Apparently no further crime awareness or crime prevention action was taken the same day.
The next day, Friday morning, the vehicle (valued at $22,000) was missing from the auto dealership lot. Closer inspection of the key revealed that the ignition key was a copy — not electronically coded to the truck. Apparently Subject #2 switched keys, and may have had a hand-held key copy device to match the physical pattern of the ignition key.
Subject #1 was described as a male/white, 25-35-years-old, 6’1″ and 185 LBS with short black hair and a mustache. He was wearing an unknown color jacket and blue jeans. Subject #2 was described as a male/white about 25-30 years-old, 5’10” and 170 LBS, clean shaven with short, sandy colored hair. He had a slight “European” accent and was wearing a black jump suit.
