Arlington Heights police received a report about 9:46 AM Monday of an apartment office burglary at Tanglewood Apartments, 2134 South Goebbert Road. Police received a report that an office, storage area and fitness center were burglarized. First an employee discovered the storeroom door was open but did not suspect anything was wrong. Next, a cleaning crew also noticed a door open, but did not notice a burglary. When more employees arrived, a fireplace door between the fitness center and the office was noticed open. At this point employees realized there had been a burglary.
Approximately 35 packages received and waiting for resident pickup were opened or removed from the storage area. Also a St. Jude Hospital for Children donation jar was also removed.
A fireplace is located between the fitness center and the office. Residents have a key to the fitness center, which can be accessed after hours. Apparently, an unknown offender or offenders, cut the hinges on the fireplace door and then accessed the office through the fireplace.
The offenders then apparently defeated the lock to the storage room while inside the office.
Pry marks were discovered on the manager’s office door, but the offender(s) did not access the managers office.
No value of the items or packages missing was available.
The crime is reported to have occurred between November 21, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. and November 23, 2012 at 7:00 a.m.
