Video of fire scene on Waterbury Circle in Palatine in fire about 2:35 a.m.
Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:22 AM Saturday to a townhouse/condo fire in the 1400 block of Waterbury Circle. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire in an air conditioner. When police arrived first, they reported fire running up to a second floor balcony. The first Palatine fire engine on the scene in less than two minutes reported fire showing from the second floor. The fire was apparently an exterior fire, but firefighters were checking to see if the fire extended into the interior while they were performing their primary search for victims. Apparently no people were injured in the fire.
The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, but the balcony was damaged to the extent that it was not secure. No word on the extent of damage to the interior. Several windows were broken for ventilation, but firefighters did not have to cut open the roof to ventilate the roof.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire especially fast because the back door of the Fire Station 82 is only about 100 yards from the townhouse that was on fire. The fire could have spread to a much more serious fire with even a couple more minutes of time to develop.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Palatine Rural, Long Grove assisted Palatine firefighters.
The fire is under investigation.
