Cook County, IL… In an effort to combat sex crimes, the Cook County Sheriff’s Police launched a Halloween initiative on Wednesday to apprehend sex offenders and keep registered suspects in compliance.
The Sheriff’s Patrol units will conduct un-scheduled address verification premise checks for sex offenders residing in unincorporated Cook County and Ford Heights. They will conduct these un-scheduled checks starting in the morning and concluding during the afternoon shift. Most children are at school during these hours.
Sheriff’s Investigators will conduct the second part of the operation. All unincorporated Cook County registered sex offenders were sent a letter last month advising them of their duty to report to the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department Headquarters in Maywood, Illinois on October 31, 2012 between the hours of 3:00pm and 8:00pm. The time was chosen because this is when most children will be on the streets trick-‐or-‐treating.
All Village of Ford Heights registered sex offenders were sent a letter last month advising them of their duty to report to the Village of Ford Heights Village Hall Ford Heights, Illinois on October 31, 2012 between the hours of 3:00pm and 8:00pm. During this scheduled reporting time, all sex offenders will participate in the following activities:
• Re-‐Registered (providing all current personal information)
• Re-‐Photographed (current photo)
• A CCSPD Sex Offender Law Tutorial video, will be viewed by each sex offender (approximately 30 minutes in length)
Of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police responsibility, 69 registered offenders reside in unincorporated Cook County, with another 19 in Ford Heights and five who are homeless.
