Palatine police responded about 11:18 AM Wednesday of five high school-age subjects playing with a gun. in the 1500 block of North Winslowe Drive. Police received a report that four male/Hispanic subjects and one male/white subject were seen by a witness with a gun. Police received a report that one subject was wearing a black shirt and brown pants, one was wearing jeans and red sneakers, one was wearing jeans and a white shirt, and one was wearing black shirt or jacket. Two of the subjects were reported to be carrying Palatine High School IDs.
After responding to the area, police observed that several male/Hispanic subjects at Palatine Square apartments on Winslow Drive took off running when they saw police.
Palatine High School and Jane Addams Elementary School, and Virginia Lake Elementary School went to soft lockdown at about 11:37 a.m. mainly to prevent any threat from entering the schools
The subjects were believed to have proceeded northbound from the area, but investigators were also checking to see if they entered the high school. At least two subjects were transported to Palatine Police Department Headquarters. A third subject was also located apparently with the first two, but it is not confirmed if the third subject was transported to police headquarters. Police did not specify where the first three were located, but it is believed to be in or near the high school. A fourth subject was located in an apartment on Winslowe Drive, just north of Palatine High School. The fourth teen possessed a pellet gun. Police are still looking for a fifth subject.
The school lockdowns were canceled about 1:30 p.m.
