FDNY firefighters responded about 11:00 p.m. Monday and initially report five buildings on fire with three buildings collapsed. Firefighters couldn’t get fire apparatus to the fire because of chest high water down the block in the Breezy Point section of Queens. News reports initially stated that at least 50 houses were destroyed. Then over 80 houses were reported destroyed.
The staging area for firefighters was Oceanside Ave and Irving Walk.
