An “apparent tornado” hitting Breezy Point in Queens, New York. It hits the beach first then tracks north damaging the Breezy Point Surf Club before continuing on across the peninsula.
A video by Roy Currlin captured a tornado that headed east toward the Atlantic Ocean at Breezy Point, just south of Brooklyn, and hit a beachfront neighborhood in New York City on Saturday. Flying debris, power outages and other damage were reported.
A tornado warning that was issued by The National Weather Service for Queens and Brooklyn as expired at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Breezy Point is a quiet beach community — a stark contrast from Brooklyn and New York City nearby.
Breezy Point is patrolled by its own private security force that restricts access to owners, renters and their guests. Breezy Point has three of New York City’s ten remaining volunteer fire departments.
