Denver police responded about 10:15 a.m. Friday to the Radio Shack store at 5305 East Colfax Avenue to a report of an armed robbery in progress. As the situation unfolded, police learned they had a hostage situation.
Police had confirmed earlier today that two police officers, at least one armed suspect, and one hostage were inside the Radio Shack. A suspect was reported to have been posting pictures to Facebook from the scene, as police were working on negotiating a peaceful resolution the hostage incident. Later it was learned that there were two suspects — both which were allegedly attempting to rob a Payday Loans store next-door to Radio Shack. The hostage was a Radio Shack manager.
By 4:00 p.m. the hostage situation was resolved with two suspects taken into custody and the hostage safe. Denver Police Chief Robert White praised officers for a “phenomenal job” in ending the standoff peacefully.
Four area schools were placed in lockdown status during the standoff: Palmer Elementary, Montclair School Academics and Enrichment, and Teller Elementary.
