The Arlington Heights Police Department recently completed enforcement activities relating to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Labor Day holiday enforcement campaign. The campaign began August 24, 2012 and ended September 3, 2012. During the campaign, three Roadside Safety Checks and several DUI Roving Saturation Patrols were conducted. One of the Roadside Safety Checks was a joint effort with the Elk Grove Police Department. The primary focus of all efforts was to identify and apprehend motorists who chose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, without wearing their seat belts, and those committing licensing, equipment and other miscellaneous Illinois Vehicle Code traffic violations.
Enforcement efforts resulted in the following cumulative arrests and citations:
• Driving Under the Influence ….. 2
• Drug Arrests ….. 4
(Includes one Poss. of Controlled Substance w/Intent to Deliver)
• Driving While License Suspended ….. 5
• Unlicensed Driving ….. 17
• Uninsured Motorist ….. 31
• Failure to Wear Seat Belt / Proper Child Restraint ….. 6
• Speeding ….. 6
• Other Miscellaneous Traffic Violations ….. 120
The Arlington Heights Police Department report it is committed to traffic safety and will continue to be an active participant in IDOT’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” grant programs.
