Accident investigation after fatal motorcycle crash at Meacham Road ad Old Schaumburg in Schaumburg.
A crash victim killed about 4:54 p.m. Friday while riding a motorcycle on Meacham Road has been identified as Mariusz Zajac, 37, of Elk Grove Village. The driver of a van apparently turned from southbound Meacham Road onto eastbound Old Schaumburg Road while Mariusz Zajac was riding a motorcycle northbound Meacham Road. A male driver, 21, and a female adult were occupants in the minivan. No significant injuries were reported regarding the occupants of the minivan.
Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:54 PM Friday to a car vs. motorcycle crash at Meacham and Old Schaumburg Road. Firefighter/paramedics received reports from multiple callers that a motorcycle and the motorcyclist were on fire after the crash.
Firefighters on the scene reported the motorcycle was fully-involved with a fatality.
Meacham Road was shut down for an extended time period in the area for accident investigation. A Mazda minivan, which was stopped on eastbound Old Schaumburg Road, had moderate-to-severe damage to the right front passenger door and windshield. By preliminary analysis, the rush hour crash appeared to involve a southbound minivan that turned left in front of a northbound motorcycle.
