Firefighter/paramedics reported about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday they were working on an attic and roof fire at a two-story brook home with a mansard roof in the 100 block of North Wisner Street in Park Ridge. Heavy fire broke through the roof, and an extra alarm was requested about 4:49 p.m. Firefighters on Park Ridge Tower Ladder 36 attacked the fire from overhead, and at least three hose lines worked from the ground. Fire attack went defensive during the incident, as fire evacuation horns were sounded.
A single-story home next-door was an exposure risk and was wet-down as flames broke out. Winds were from the South at about 14 mph at 4:51 p.m. at O’Hare International Airport, and were a factor in fanning the fire.
A work van was parked on the front driveway, but no report yet whether work was underway at the home.
Firefighters and extra equipment were staged at Merrill and Touhy and at Washington and Touhy requiring traffic detours in the area during rush hour.
