VIDEO: Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics response to extrication crash involving a semi-trailer truck rollover on IL 53/I-290 just south of Interstate 90.
Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics and Illinois State Police responded about 4:43 PM Monday to a rollover semi-trailer truck crash on southbound IL 53/Interstate 290, just south of Interstate 90. Firefighter/paramedics received a report that the driver was still inside the cab. The truck was tipped over to its left side in the frontage lanes of southbound Route 53, just beyond the ramp from eastbound Interstate 90.
Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics performed a quick extrication with the truck driver extricated from the truck cab by about 4:56 p.m.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital.
The truck and semi-trailer was blocking two lanes of the local lanes of southbound IL 53/I-290. Firefighters were standing by with with a hose line. The truck was carrying 33,000 LBS of steel. Some of the steel apparently punched through the roof of the semi-trailer and tore up the trailer. No report of any other vehicles involved.
Lanes were blocked for an extended time period Monday during the evening rush hour and later.
