Mount Prospect police responded about 6:11 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 to a report that two vehicles were driving recklessly through the parking lot at Walmart and then westbound on Rand Road. One of the vehicles was described as a black 4-door sedan and a maroon or red 4-door sedan. A minute later police received a report of some type of disturbance or battery with a subject running toward the Shell station (formerly Phillips 66, 2 East Rand Road) near Kensington Road and Rand Road.
Next police were updated from a witness that a subject was hiding between the Shell gas station and the Just Tires business. The subject was described as a male/Hispanic, age 25-32, wearing a white T-shirt and shorts and carrying a backpack. A female wearing a green shirt was also reported involved in the incident.
Police also had one of the vehicles matching the description of the reckless vehicles stopped in the 1200 block of Business Center. Police on the traffic stop on Business Center Drive reported there was apparently no battery, but that some type of robbery may have occurred at the Walmart parking lot.
A Buffalo Grove K-9 team was requested about 7:05 p.m. to assist Mount Prospect for a vehicle sniff at 102 East Rand Road, Mt. Prospect at the Just Tires Parking Lot. Narcotics and $1,340.00 were located in a vehicle. K-9 ‘Saxon’ also found cash hidden under an old tire.
At least one adult/male was transported in custody to Mount Prospect Police Department Headquarters. No word or confirmation on any other arrests or charges.
Police are investigating, but the incident may have involved a drug transaction with a rip-off and run.
