Storms hit Addison, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lombard, South Elgin, Wheaton, Winfield and more about 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The storms destroyed many trees and ripped some roofs off of buildings with hurricane-force winds. The roof of Metro Industrial Tire & Supply was ripped off and dropped in the parking lot at the northwest corner of North Avenue and Swift Road.
Du Page Airport reported a maximum gust speed of 75 mph at 12:21 p.m. after maximum gusts ranging from 59 mph to 66 mph between 12:05 p.m. and 12:21 p.m. Sunday in rain and thunderstorm conditions.
O’Hare International Airport reported a maximum wind gust of 61 mph at 12:44 p.m. and 12:51 p.m. Sunday in rain and thunderstorm conditions.
