A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Cook County and other counties, but the severe storms are moving from northwest to southeast and were already south of Elgin. If thunderstorm cells develop toward the north, they would likely affect southern Schaumburg and possibly as far north as Harper College in Palatine. However, the severe storms — as indicated by radar — appear to be well south of southern Palatine, southern Rolling Meadows and most or all or Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village, and therefore would not affect Harper College. Southern Schaumburg and southern Elk Grove Village would just be affected by the northern edge of the storm. If the storms rapidly grow northward, more northwest suburbs could be affected (including Harper College), but otherwise the storms will track south of our area. At about 12:10 p.m. the storms did appear to be increasing in intensity with Wheaton, Geneva, Naperville, Aurora and communities nearby taking the brunt of the force of the storms, which has formed a line that extended down to Kankakee, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has placed extreme east central Illinois, central Indiana and southwest Ohio at a 2% risk on the Tornado Outlook map.
