Common sight: Arcing power line after quick severe thunderstorm hit the northwest suburbs. This power line was arcing in the 1500 block of North Beverly Avenue in Arlington Heights.

Severe thunderstorms hit the northwest suburbs about 6:00 a.m. and peaked in intensity at about Palatine as the storm line moved from northwest to southeast across north central and northeast Illinois.

Tree down in the roadway on Irving Park Road west of Springinsguth Road reported about 12:53 p.m.

Transformer on fire reported about 7:27 a.m. near Beverly and Thomas with a power line down and arcing in front of the 1500 block of North Beverly Avenue, and near Beverly and Maude.

Power line down reported 3 feet above the ground about 7:14 a.m. in the 700 block of South Kennicott Avenue.

300 block of Inverway — tree down?

All train gates stuck in the down position in downtown Arlington Heights reported about 7:07 a.m.

Power line on a school bus reported about 6:50 a.m. at Main Street and Buffalo Grove Road in Buffalo Grove with one person — presumably the bus driver — onboard the bus. A utility pole was also down. The bus was on Main Street just south of Buffalo Grove Road. Police requested trains move at reduced speed while passing through the area.

Power line down with arcing reported about 6:47 am. at Cedar and Glencoe, Palatine.

Tree down in the roadway reported about 6:46 a.m. Biesterfield west of Rohlwing Road in Elk Grove Village.

Transformer fire reported about 6:45 a.m. in Prospect Heights — getting location.

Tree down completely blocking roadway at Salem south of Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

House fire reported in the 0-99 block of West Hattendorf Avenue in Roselle.

Large tree limbs across the road at Ela and Freeman reported about 6:39 a.m. — cleared by police.

Tree branches down with power lines on a house reported about 6:37 a.m. in the 200 block of Cherrywood in Buffalo Grove.

Tree branches on power lines with arcing, fire and smoke showing reported about 6:33 a.m. in the 500 block of South Wilke Road.

Report of a whole tree in the roadway reported about 6:28 a.m. at 1100 block of East Rockwell Street.

Smoke in building in the 100 block of West Lake Cook Road reported about 6:25 a.m.

Palatine had multiple reports of tree limbs down by 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.
