Fire department divers search a car and prepare it for recovery from a pond at Treehouse Apartments (See over 180 more photos at Facebook.com/CardinalEmergencies).
Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:15 PM Wednesday to car in a pond near the intersection of Crooked Creek and Pine Valley Drive. Firefighters on the scene reported an SUV in the pond submerged with the roof exposed. Police and firefighters believed all victims were out of the car, but had no absolute confirmation.
A MABAS Divers Box was called for divers to confirm that the car was empty.
Fire department divers from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Wheeling, and divers from other communities responded to the Divers Box.
Divers confirmed no victims were in the SUV, and assisted in the recovery of the SUV from the pond by Redmon Towing.
Apparently a woman jumped the curb while driving her vehicle in a parking lot just west of the pond. Workers in the area helped out of the water before firefighter arrived. A possible language barrier made it difficult to be certain there were no other people in the SUV.
