VIDEO: Defensive operations at extra-alarm fire at Roy’s Home Furnishings, 2455 North Sheffield.
Chicago Fire Department responded about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at Roy’s Home Furnishings furniture store, located in the 2400 block of North Sheffield Avenue.
Trains on the CTA’s Red, Purple and Brown Lines were stopped on the north side during rush hour, but were running again by the morning rush hour.
The fire was elevated to a 3-11 as firefighters faced three major challenges: high fuel load in the warehouse, high winds, and high heat and humidity. The high heat and humidity required extra crews rotate into operations to prevent heat exhaustion.
The fire was possibly caused by a cigarette in the warehouse.
