UPDATE: A 10-year-old boy with serious injuries is now listed in stable condition after he was hit by a 2006 minivan in the southbound outer lane of Rand Road. The boy was with three other pedestrians when a southbound vehicle in the inside lane stopped upon seeing the four pedestrians in the median. The boy may have thought it was safe to cross the road. When he crossed in front of the the stopped vehicle in the inside lane, he entered the outside lane and was struck by the minivan.

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:24 p.m. Sunday to a report of a child hit by a car in front of McDonald’s, 1576 North Rand Road. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of serious injuries. Police were first on the scene and requested that paramedics expedite to the scene. Palatine firefighter/paramedics transported the victim to Level I Trauma Center Adovacate Lutheran General Hospital.
Rand Road was blocked in directions. Police blocked northbound Rand Road at Williams, and police blocked southbound Rand Road at Dundee Road. Expect lanes to blocked in the area for an extended period.
