A small plane crashed about 3:15 p.m. Thursday just northeast of of Lake in the Hills Airport, and east of Pyott Road. The crash site is near Pyott Road, James R Rakow Road, and Virginia Road in Crystal Lake. Two men on board the aircraft were killed when the plane crashed nose first into a barren lot and gravel pit area of Meyer Material, just east of the airport. The men have been identified as Paul San Filippo, 82, and Hugh Scott Clark, 65. No information is available regarding who was flying the aircraft.
Crystal Lake and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills firefighter/paramedics responded to the crash.
The aircraft was a single engine Beech S35 manufactured in 1964. The aircraft (N176Q) is registered to Paul San Filippo of Grayslake, Illinois.
