Chicago police responded about 12:53 a.m. Monday to a report of shots fired and discovered a gunshot victim in the 4900 block of West Grace Street in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood. The victim, found near an alley garage and identified as Niven Beluso, 26, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Shell casings were found at the crime scene.
Last year, Beluso was one of four people charged with attempting to steal a total of $330,000 from the global human resources firm formerly known as Hewitt and Associates, and currently known as Aon Hewitt, following its acquisition by Aon in October 2010.
Beluso was ordered to pay restitution to Hewitt as part of a negotiated plea in his case. Investigators alleged that Beluso allowed about $100,000 stolen from Hewitt retirement accounts to be transferred into his personal bank account. Allegedly, Hewitt employee and Arlington Heights resident Cherilyn Thomas, 25, stole identity information related to retirement accounts and passed the information to others. Another male offender withdrew money from the accounts and transferred some of the money to Beluso’s account and to anther account.
