Streamwood police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:31 p.m. Thursday to a report of a possible explosive device at the UPS Store at 684 South Barrington Road.
Some roads were blocked at Schaumburg Road and Barrington Road and Weathersfield Road and Barrington Road at about 3:35 p.m.
Areas that may be affected by police and fire equipment in the area are Barrington Road and Weathersfield Way and the Target store shopping center at Barrington Road and Schaumburg.
Police from Schaumburg, Bartlett and Roselle and others assisted Streamwood police.
A suspicious package was discovered on top of an outdoor garbage can in front of the UPS Store. A bomb squad investigated the package and determined it was not hazardous.
Roadways were re-opened about 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters cleared the scene about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
