Long Grove firefighters and area structural collapse technicians responded about 11:05 a.m. Monday to a report of a partial building collapse at 20325 North Hazel Crest Road in unincorporated Palatine/Long Grove area.
Gas and electric utilities were shut off to the building at about 11:34 a.m. Monday following the response of multiple fire-rescue units.
Firefighters began supportive shoring operations at about 12 noon. A rear porch collapsed and the rear of a house collapsed. The shoring operations were performed to prevent further collapse of the house.
Long Grove firefighters were assisted by firefighters and technicians from Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Wauconda and other communities and departments. Some communities also provided station coverage for the Long Grove fire station.
According to Google listings and map information, the address lists three businesses at the location — Arlington Heights-based Birchwood Tree Service, L & S Secretarial Services, and Lucy’s Diaper Cakes ‘N More.
A disturbance involving a neighbor occurred about 2:10 p.m. with fire command calling for a police to respond. The offender left the area before police arrived.
