VIDEO: Overhaul and checking for fire extension after apartment fire at International Village Apartment in Schaumburg.
Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:17 a.m. Friday to a fire in an apartment unit at International Village Apartments, 1212 East Algonquin Road. Firefighters received multiple calls reporting smoke from a third floor apartment and a simultaneous activated fire alarm. Firefighters quickly knocked the fire, but took time checking for extension of the in the ceiling and common cockloft above the apartment unit. Firefighters pulled down much of the ceiling in the unit, and used a thermal camera to make sure there was no hidden fire.
A woman was reported injured, possibly with a burn injury, and immediately transported to the hospital by Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics.
A MABAS Box Alarm was called for change of quarters with area communities standing by in Schaumburg fire stations while Schaumburg firefighters finished work at the apartment unit.
