Arlington Heights police responded about 4:55 a.m. Thursday to a residential burglary in the 900 block of South Scarsdale Court. Police received a report that someone was trying to break into the house.
The house was under construction for renovation, but residents were still living in the home and locked themselves inside a room when they hear the offender. The residents could hear someone walking around on the first floor before police arrived. The offender forcibly entered a basement, and walked into the basement. The offender also may have thought he was in a vacant house, because he left the house suddenly when he realized people were behind a locked room. Police arrived within three minutes. Police discovered a door that was forcibly opened. A first floor window was found open on the south side of the house.
A police K-9 on a track for the suspect helped discover missing items from the house, which included a Yamaha case and saxophone and a socket set and case that were stolen from a gray Acura MDX parked in the garage. Also found was a Sharp television that was in a backyard coach house.
Police responded immediately. Their fast arrival on the scene probably caused the offender or offenders to dump the burglary proceeds. A police evidence technician also responded to the scene.
