The ‘Pneumonia Front’ snuck into Arlington Heights about 6:51 p.m. Thursday, but much too late to prevent another record high for March 15 — and technically not really a ‘Pneumonia Front’ — initially.
An Arlington Heights temperature reading at the Arlington Heights Historical District was 81.5°F at 5:52 p.m. CDT. The temperature dropped to 76.5°F at 6:52 p.m. CDT. That’s a drop of only 5°F in one hour. A ‘Pneumonia Front’ is defined by a 16°F drop in one hour. The Arlington Heights Historical District thermometer recorded a high of 85.1°F from 4:46 p.m. to 4:51 p.m. At 7:22 p.m. the temperature was reported at 59.2°F. That’s a 25.9°F drop in two hours and 31 minutes.
But the key temperature drop meeting the definition of a ‘Pneumonia Front’ occurred from after 6:12 p.m. with an accelerated drop immediately after.
