SPRINGFIELD, IL – Tollway motorists will have a safeguard in place to help protect them from future toll rate hikes if a bill sponsored by State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) is signed into law.
“The recent massive toll increase proved that we need to make it harder for unelected boards, like the Illinois Tollway Authority, to dig deeper into our pockets,” Murphy said.
Senate Bill 2530 requires the Illinois Toll Highway Authority to get 8 out of 11 director votes to impose rate hikes.
Murphy’s measure passed the Illinois Senate on March 29 and awaits action in the House of Representatives.
