A large area of thunder and rain and some thunderstorms moved north-northeast across eastern Illinois. No Severe Thunderstorm Watches or Warnings exist in the Chicago area. Rain and warm temperatures overnight have reduced the snow cover, but there are still four inches of snow on the ground in Arlington Heights. No threat exists this morning in Chicagoland in Illinois. Some storms may linger in northwest Indiana.
There are reports tornados overnight in Mississippi and Alabama. Some house are reported destroyed in Clay, Alabama in Jefferson County. Major structural damage was also reported in Trussville, Springville and Fultondale, Alabama.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS…A FEW MAY PRODUCE:
DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL RATES.
AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING…GUSTY THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP NORTHEAST FROM CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AFTER 9 PM.
THESE ARE LIKELY TO EXTEND AS FAR NORTH AS THE INTERSTATE 57
CORRIDOR BY MIDNIGHT…AND POTENTIALLY AS FAR NORTH AS THE
INTERSTATE 55 CORRIDOR AND THE CHICAGO METROPOLITAN AREA. THESE
WILL SWEEP EAST OF NORTHWEST INDIANA BY 5 AM. SOME THUNDERSTORMS
MAY BE SEEN FURTHER NORTH AND WEST IN THE OUTLOOK AREA DURING THIS
TIME…BUT SEVERE WEATHER IS NOT ANTICIPATED.
DISCUSSION…A POTENT COLD FRONT WITHIN A VERY STRONG WIND FIELD
WILL MOVE EAST THROUGH THE OUTLOOK AREA LATE THIS EVENING AND
OVERNIGHT. ANOMALOUSLY HIGH MOISTURE FOR JANUARY WILL STREAM
NORTH AHEAD OF THIS MAKING THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY ALONG THE FRONT.
THESE STORMS ARE FAVORED TO BE IN A BROKEN LINE AND WILL BE MOVING
QUICKLY…POTENTIALLY OVER 60 MPH…SUPPORTING THE POTENTIAL FOR
DAMAGING WINDS. IF THE LOW LEVEL WARMTH WERE ABLE TO SURGE FURTHER
NORTH THIS EVENING INTO EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST
INDIANA…THE POSSIBILITY OF BRIEF TORNADOES WOULD EXIST IN THE
FAR SOUTHEAST OUTLOOK AREA…TOWARDS FOWLER INDIANA. IN
ADDITION…THE POTENTIAL HEAVY RAINFALL COMBINED WITH THE MELTING
SNOW COULD LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT RISES ON AREA RIVERS LATE TONIGHT
AND AN INCREASED POTENTIAL FOR ICE JAMS.
ADDITIONAL WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:
AREAS OF FOG CAN BE EXPECTED TONIGHT. IN ADDITION…PATCHY
BLOWING SNOW IS LIKELY IN OUTLYING AREAS THIS EVENING. THIS WILL
CREATE SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS IN PLACES.

STRONG GUSTY WESTERLY WINDS IN EXCESS OF 35 MPH ARE ARE EXPECTED
