UPDATE: Toxicology results report that Julie Berls had a blood alcohol level of 0.21 — about 2.5 times over the legal limit the night of her crash New Year’s Eve. Julie Berls had graduated from St. Charles High School in 2007 and Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Elementary Education on December 17, 2011, according to her obituary.
Campton Hills police responded about 3:58 am. January 1, 2012 after a vehicle was reported crashed into a utility pole in the 39W800 block of Campton Hills Road..
Police discovered a 2002 Saturn had left the roadway — apparently westbound on Campton Hills Road — and hit a utility pole. Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District firefighter/paramedics worked an extrication operation at the scene to remove 22-year-old Julie E. Berls from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Campton Hills Police Department are investigating the crash.
