Elk Grove police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:33 p.m. Sunday to a report of a house fire with flames showing in the 1500 block of California Street. Police were first on the scene and report fire showing — an active fire. The first fire engine crew on the scene reported that the entire left side of the house was on fire. Firefighters immediately worked on searching for residents. All residents were out of the house and were being helped by police. There was a report that people were slow to get out of the house before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters reported heavy damage to roof trusses and fire on the left side of the house (when facing it from the street) with fire near the chimney.
Firefighters reported the fire out at about 4:47 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters were working on overhaul and knocking down additional hot spots. Firefighters were also working salvage covers to prevent damage to other areas of the house.
