VIDEO: Scenes just as firefighters arrived and immediately exposed and extinguished a fire behind a wall next to a chimney in the 1500 block of West Lillian Avenue.
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:55 p.m. Sunday to a report of smoke in a house and a possible fire behind a wall in the 1500 block of West Lillian Avenue. Firefighters inside the house reported fire in a wall, and immediately opened up the wall to get at the fire. The fire incident was also upgraded to a Code 4, which brought extra firefighters and mutual aid. Prospect Heights firefighters stood by in an Arlington Heights fire station, and Buffalo Grove firefighters responded to the scene. Palatine firefighters were already on the scene on auto-response to the address.
The fire was declared ‘knocked’ at 9:12 p.m. The ladder tower was raised to observe and illuminate the scene. Thermal image cameras were used to detect any hidden fire.
No injuries were reported. No official word yet if a problem with the chimney was the cause of the fire. The fire is under investigation.
Early detection of the fire in a hidden space and quick attack on the fire prevented it from becoming a full-blown house fire.
