Surveillance video from a Nashville, Tennessee market shows a truck smashing through the front door. Second video (below) shows the offender steal a Dodge Durango and crash into a delivery truck after pulling out into the highway.
Columbia Police charged Erik Whitaker, 40, charged with two counts of attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, theft, reckless endangerment, and other charges for (1) attempting to run over female friend Laquisha Dansby, 37; (2) running over store owner, Surendra Patel in his own store; (3) stealing another vehicle after damaging his own; (4) and cashing head-on into a delivery during a reckless attempt to escape.
Whitaker was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after he crashed the Dodge Durango SUV that he stole head-on into a delivery truck head-on. The Durango was parked at the gas pumps. The vehicle owner — a nurse — was walking into the store to see if she could give aid to any of the victims. She assumed the driver of the pickup was having a medical issue during the crash. As she walked into the store and crash scene, Whitaker walked right by her — exiting the store to head for her vehicle for the theft of her vehicle.
The only other person injured was Surendra Patel, who suffered head, chest and leg injuries when he was run over in his own store by a full-size pickup truck.
Whitaker was held on $2 million bond after his release from the hospital.
Longer version of surveillance video shows theft of Dodge Durango and head-on collision with a corn chips delivery truck.
