Schaumburg police responded about 7:05 p.m. Monday to Dick’s Sporting Goods, 601 North Martingale, to investigate and apprehend two suspects in a burglary and fraudulent activity case. Police received a report that two men who committed a burglary earlier in the day in Elk Grove Village, had returned merchandise they stole in the burglary to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Schaumburg. Store clerks at Dick’s were unaware that the merchandise had allegedly been stolen in a burglary, and approved return of the merchandise in exchange for gifts of an unspecified amount.
Later in the day, store personnel at Dick’s Sporting Goods were made aware that the merchandise was from a burglary. They immediately cleared the money value in the gift cards to zero.
Later, the suspects returned to Dick’s Sporting Goods in Schaumburg to complain that the gift cards had no money value. Store personnel called Schaumburg police while the suspects continued to browse in the store. The suspects were describe as (#1) a male/Hispanic wearing a red and black hoodie, and the suspect was wearing a blue down, puffy jacket. By 7:12 p.m. two suspects were in custody.
At least two suspects were transported in custody to Elk Grove Village Police Department Headquarters.
