Former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier died Monday night at age 67 after a brief battle with liver cancer.
Joe Frazier (1944-2011) has died after a brief battle with liver cancer. He was 67. The former heavyweight champion was the first fighter to beat Muhammad Ali, but was never able to surpass the lead of Muhammad Ali. His left hook dropped Ali in the 15th round at Madison Square Garden in 1971 to win the so-called ”Fight of the Century.”
Frazier is famous for taking on Ali in three momentous fights in the 1970s — including the epic ”Thrilla in Manilla.” Frazier had been doing regular autograph appearances, including one in Las Vegas in September, but he died just weeks after being diagnosed with liver cancer.
