Palatine police responded about 12:05 p.m. Thursday to a report of retail theft in progress at Walmart, 1555 North Rand Road. Police received a report that the offender was fleeing the store with merchandise. Loss prevention personnel pursued the suspect and the suspect dumped the merchandise in the store vestibule, and fled behind the store. Palatine police were able to corner the suspect between Walmart and McDonald’s in the area behind Walmart. The suspect was in custody by 12:12 p.m. Thursday.
Police also received a report that a female accomplice had left her unknown vehicle and was on foot in the area. Police also were in contact with the female suspect.
Police called for a caged car to the scene — presumably for transport. No word or confirmation was available on whether both suspects were transported to Palatine Police Department Headquarters.
