UPDATE/CORRECTION: Fire was at Acme Finishing with a small fire in a machine and ducting at 1595 Oakton Street — NOT Metal Impact LLC, which was the original reported location.
Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to report of a commercial building fire with heavy black smoke at Metal Impact LLC, 1501 Oakton Street, Elk Grove Village. The fire was reported to be out by about 5:11 p.m. The fire was reported to be confined to a small area. Either the fire or ventilation process involving a scrubber system (air pollution control device) was causing the heavy black smoke.
At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday firefighters reported no heat signatures at the building after thorough survey of the building with thermal imaging camera(s).
Acme Finishing Company, according to its website, is a liquid and powder-coating facility. The company also finishes using a Retro-Reflective powder coating.
According to the company’s official website at the originally reported location — Metal Impact LLC nearby — the company uses the extrusion process to make aluminum and steel shapes and machine parts for the aerospace industry, automotive industry, military/defense industry, and consumer product industry. Some parts include switch housings, electrical connectors, mortar tubes, missile components, fire extinguishers and building electrical components.
