A yellow lab in Wausau, Wisconsin is pulled from a smoky house, then revived by firefighters after they performed a ‘mouth to snout’ rescue.
Wasau firefighters responded about 4:00 p.m. Tuesday to a house fire in the 200 block of South Sixth Avenue, Wasau.
Dwight Borchardt was home when the fire started, and was able to rescue a one-year-old border collie mix Cooper out of the home before firefighters arrived, but heavy smoke pushed him back from rescuing two cats, Lavender and Mocha, and a yellow lab named Koda.
During a search of the home, part of firefighter operations, Koda was found in a second-floor room filled with smoke. Firefighters rescued the dog and performed mout-to-nose resuscitation, and placed an oxygen mask over the dogs nose.
Koda was transported to VCA Companion Care Animal Hospital in Wausau and later transported to Central Wisconsin Animal Emergency Center in Kronenwetter, and is expected survive in good shapel
