CDT THURSDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHICAGO HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 AM
CDT THURSDAY. THE HIGH WIND WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING…WINDS WILL QUICKLY INCREASE BY THIS AFTERNOON… WITH
STRONG AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING WINDS LIKELY LATE THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH TONIGHT AND POSSIBLY LINGERING INTO EARLY THURSDAY
MORNING.

* WINDS…NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS OF 40 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS UP
TO 60 MPH ARE LIKELY. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE OVER LOCATIONS
ADJACENT TO LAKE MICHIGAN.

* IMPACTS…THE VERY STRONG WINDS COULD RESULT IN MINOR WIND
DAMAGE…DOWNED TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES. HIGH RISE
BUILDINGS NEAR THE LAKE WILL EXPERIENCE EVEN STRONGER WINDS
JUST A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET ABOVE GROUND…SO BE CERTAIN
EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO HIGH WINDS SUCH AS
WINDOWS ARE SECURED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS
OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE. WINDS THIS STRONG
CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT…ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
USE EXTRA CAUTION.

Winds are expected to gradually increase today (Wednesday) — gradually increasing throughout the day. High winds will be noticeable about 9:00 a.m., but the highest winds (steady at 20 mph) are expected at about 9:00 p.m. and continuing with sustained winds ranging from 20 to 22 mph through 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011. Gust of about 60 mph are also possible. Winds will mostly be from the North and North-Northwest during the period. Light to moderate winds are also expected throughout the windy period.

A Lakeshore Flood Warning has also been issued in effect from 3 PM Wednesday to 4 PM CDT Thursday. Battering waves up to 22 feet are forecast for Wednesday night.
