Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Palatine and Wheeling — members of the Northwest Water Commission — would not see a Chicago water rate increase, because water is pumped from Evanston, which also shares potable water with Skokie. But other suburbs might not be so lucky.
City of Chicago water delivery pipes are in need of an infrastructure update. Paying for the upgrade could be partially passed on to the member communities of two other water commission in Chicago suburbs.

The DuPage Water Commission suburbs that receive Lake Michigan from Chicago — consisting of about 25 communities — could see rate hikes of 25 percent next year, and 15 percent each for the following three years.
