Dear Ask Paul B Fans,
As you all know, I can talk, and talk, and well, just talk. I met someone in the “shvitz” at my club. For those of you NOT familiar with this vernacular of “shvitz,” it’s the sauna. This man from Ukraine, began an oratory that melted a minimum of 4 lbs. off my rather robust physique. If I meet him every Sunday, I will be as svelte as svelte can be! I asked this man about the Bears, and he responded, rather brusquely,” I like soccer, sir, I do not understand YOUR football.” I knew right off, that this man was a foreigner, and I love foreigners. These people really know about our great country, and this man could be the poster boy for Freedom.
Erik then segued into his 20 year journey as a young man in Ukraine to his “dream come true” of living in the U.S. His two sons were born here, and he stated twice that he would die for his country, yes OUR U.S. This man told us of his struggles in Europe, as well as the prejudice, and horrid living conditions. His parents died in their fifties, and how certain schools were “forbidden for his kind.” This man waited for his papers for three years and emigrated to Chicago. His twenty years here have been wonderful, said Erik. His sons are in college and he works as a physical therapist here. His wife works for a dentist, and he feels like the luckiest man ever. This man was so glad to be here, you would think he was a Stepford child. He stated that we have problems here, but there is NOTHING like the U.S.A. Our discussion (although I participated maybe 10%) was uplifting and amazingly energizing. So many Americans need to realize the amazing freedoms and opportunities that we have at our disposal here. We are unique unto the world, and it takes someone like Erik, to point it out
