Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:36 p.m. Monday to a report of shots fired in the 16-18 block of East Old Willow Road. Police arrived on the scene within minutes and reported two people down in the hallway of an apartment building.
Police reported a male subject down on the floor of the fourth floor with a gun in his hand. A second subject — possibly a female — was also reported down. Paramedics that were staged near the crime scene were called to check for vital signs. Police reported that both victims appeared to be deceased, but this has not been confirmed.
The area was immediately restricted, and residents were asked by police to stay in their apartment units while police secured the scene. By 3:50 p.m. police were working on the assumption that no offender was at large in the area.
Mount Prospect police responded to assist Prospect Heights police to secure the scene and assist with investigation. A crime scene was sealed off just after 3:45 p.m. Monday.
