Palatine Firefighter Memorial October 1, 2011.
On Saturday, October 1, 2011, the Palatine Fire Department will be hosting a brief memorial ceremony honoring the service and sacrifice of Firefighters Wesley Comfort III and Leonard Nebel who lost their lives in the line-of-duty when their fire engine collided with a passenger train in downtown Palatine on October 1, 1946.
The memorial service will be held at the Palatine Firefighters Memorial near the intersection of N. Brockway and W. Slade Streets in downtown Palatine and is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am lasting approximately 20 minutes. Members of the Palatine Fire Department will speak, the Palatine Fire Department Honor Guard will present the flags and members of the department will present a memorial wreath.
The Palatine Fire Department will also be hosting its annual Open House on Saturday, October 01, 2011 at Station 84, located at 220 W. Illinois Avenue. The event will run from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This family-friendly, interactive event will feature fire and rescue vehicles and equipment on display, station tours and refreshments.
