Arlington Heights Historical Museum Offers Children’s Workshops with Autumn Themes

Autumn is a wonderful time of year. Leaves are falling and it’s harvest time. Children can investigate and enjoy autumn themes in workshops geared just for their age. All programs are held at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 110 W. Fremont, Arlington Heights.

How the Make an Apple Pie and See the World will be held on Saturday, October 1, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Children will read the story written by Marjorie Priceman, investigate ingredients in their original state before they are processed, and make a pie from scratch. A tour of the kitchens in the Museum’s two historic homes is included to see old fashioned kitchen tools. For ages 4-6 years, $16 park district residents, $20 nonresidents.


The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything is on Saturday, October 22, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Make your own scarecrow after reading this story by Megan Lloyd. Tour of the Museum Carriage House is included to see old time tools and implements. For ages 4-6 years, $16 park district residents, $20 nonresidents.

Pass the Pumpkins Please is on Sunday, October 23, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Pumpkin seeds, stories, crafts, and of course, the color orange will be the theme of the day. For ages 4-6 years, $16 park district residents, $20 nonresidents.

Cooking with Chef Dave workshops are hands on classes led by Dave Esau, chef and owner of Dave’s Specialty Foods in Mount Prospect. All one-day workshops are on Thursdays, from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for ages 4-9 years and each workshop costs $22 for park district residents, $27 for nonresidents. Join Chef Dave for lively cooking activities that feature a different culinary experience each time.
